"Hey, it's not just the coffee. We don't have any chocolate yet, either. Adia has the day the cacao trees finally get harvested marked on her calendar." He grins at his wife, who rolls her eyes fondly at the teasing. The truth is, there are problems and squabbles in Atlantis as there are anywhere, and Caspar still gets the occasional wary look when he's in the town center, but the days of war and destruction are long past.
Amelia's question makes him frown in a not entirely affected expression of dread. "If anything goes sour with this crop, I'm flying a shuttle to the other continent myself and starting fresh, no matter what the Quorum says. I still think they're being ridiculously conservative about this in the first place."
"There are mature coffee trees on Earth," Adia explains for Amelia's benefit. "But they're not on Atlantis and there are native people there who will see a spaceship, Caspar, you know that's why we can't do that."
Caspar grimaces. "It's not like we're invading on anything. What's the worst that can happen?"
"Starting a new religion and completely disrupting their cultural beliefs?" Adia counters. She looks at Amelia for help. "It's the same reason we keep the Nexus a secret. We won't have that peace and quiet anymore."
