A Very Nexus Reception
To all the friends of the happy grooms, PINpoint messages have already been sent weeks ago inviting them to expect quite the street party arranged in the commons of the Nexus. Guests have been invited to bring an appetite--both for food and for a social adventure. Nirnish weddings are public affairs, after all. While the ceremony has had to be somewhat sequestered for the sake of keeping the existence of Other Worlds a secret, neither Felix nor Jim would want to leave out their interdimensional friends entirely. Having a reception party arranged in the Nexus became the natural plan of action.
Overnight large sections of the Commons are transformed via diligent craftsmanship and quite a lot of magic from those who’ve volunteered. Lanterns representing the Divines are hung along every lamp post, bringing at least the idea of warmth even if the flames are too small to heat their surroundings alone. Bardic tunes carry in the air as readily as the scent of food and drink. Past banners of red and black, blue and white the people gather.
For both grooms this is nearly a continuation of the day before. They’ve had the chance to sleep off the nerves of their ceremony. Today is entirely for celebration--uninhibited celebration at that. No more minding what is said and isn’t. No more pretending to be anything other than who they are. Jim’s traded out his Nirnish finery for a suit and tie, garments he’s much more familiar with. Felix is staying with his native clothing; though he may have dressed down a little from his wedding clothes, the conjurer’s dressed in fitted breeches and his best fur-trimmed coat and boots, the soft hide dyed blue to match his tunic. By their side sits the conjurer’s spectral wolf familiar, ears pricked at the gathering.
As the guests find their ways over it will be easy to spot their friends amidst all the decor along with many other avenues with which to enjoy themselves….
Greetings

He doesn't know Felix or Jim very well, but he's always game for a party, and they seem like a good crew.
"This is good stuff," he says after polishing one off. He neatly wipes his scarred face with a napkin. "My compliments to the cook."

"It took a bit to get the techniques down. I had one of Felix's relatives teach me so I could present them as part of the catering."
He takes a sip out of his coffee mug.
"I"m glad you enjoy them."

"My name's Joseph Kinner, formerly of the 1938 Secondary Magnetic Expedition. It's an honor, sir." Kinner bows his head slightly. "I don't think we've spoken before, but I'm a regular visitor at the cafe."
Kinner picks up another honey cake. He's always enjoyed pastries, but Katsuya's are the best.
"I'm also a cook, you know. My specialty's seafood and stew, not baking, but I like to think I'm a good judge of food in general. And this is excellent."
no subject
He dips his head with a bit of a self conscious chuckle.
"Thank you. I'm something of the opposite, myself. I Can and do cook, but my skills with pastry are far better than my techniques elsewhere."
no subject
He sips some from his own drink to chase the honey cake, enjoying the taste.
"Either one is okay, but Kinner's what I'm used to. I'd like to learn how to cook pastries sometime," the cook admits. "I run Kinner's Kippers in the Plaza. We sell seafood, mostly. Some imported from other worlds and some Nexus-caught."
no subject
"Freshly caught form the Nexus?" Oh now that's a pleasant thought. "For seafood I've always gone to the fish markets back in my world. I hadn't even thought to check here for it."
no subject
"Yes, there's some good fishing holes here. I can show you some one of these days, if you'd like." Kinner smiles a little, mood brightening. "Fish marketsin your world? I might have to visit someday."
no subject
Presumably she's handled it already but he's a little put off that she never came to him for help if that's the case.
"Er. Well, my world isn't the easiest to navigate, if you don't speak Japanese."
no subject
He ought to get around to learning more languages someday. There's no reason not to.
"Didn't get the chance to do much traveling back home," says Kinner, a little embarrassed. "But now I've got all the time in the world to learn. One of the good things about being dead in my world, honestly. Don't have anything back home anymore."
no subject
One of many, only this one's more personally unsettling. He's very much form a society that expects the Dead to stay that way.
"One good thing about the Nexus, I suppose. There's no shortages of doors to check out."
