A Very Nexus Reception
To all the friends of the happy grooms, PINpoint messages have already been sent weeks ago inviting them to expect quite the street party arranged in the commons of the Nexus. Guests have been invited to bring an appetite--both for food and for a social adventure. Nirnish weddings are public affairs, after all. While the ceremony has had to be somewhat sequestered for the sake of keeping the existence of Other Worlds a secret, neither Felix nor Jim would want to leave out their interdimensional friends entirely. Having a reception party arranged in the Nexus became the natural plan of action.
Overnight large sections of the Commons are transformed via diligent craftsmanship and quite a lot of magic from those who’ve volunteered. Lanterns representing the Divines are hung along every lamp post, bringing at least the idea of warmth even if the flames are too small to heat their surroundings alone. Bardic tunes carry in the air as readily as the scent of food and drink. Past banners of red and black, blue and white the people gather.
For both grooms this is nearly a continuation of the day before. They’ve had the chance to sleep off the nerves of their ceremony. Today is entirely for celebration--uninhibited celebration at that. No more minding what is said and isn’t. No more pretending to be anything other than who they are. Jim’s traded out his Nirnish finery for a suit and tie, garments he’s much more familiar with. Felix is staying with his native clothing; though he may have dressed down a little from his wedding clothes, the conjurer’s dressed in fitted breeches and his best fur-trimmed coat and boots, the soft hide dyed blue to match his tunic. By their side sits the conjurer’s spectral wolf familiar, ears pricked at the gathering.
As the guests find their ways over it will be easy to spot their friends amidst all the decor along with many other avenues with which to enjoy themselves….
Greetings

Caspar doesn't exactly return Felix's grin, but it's clear he gets it. When you're pledging yourself to the love of your life, you want to make the moment last. "A ritual for every Divine, huh? We managed to whittle it down to two gods and a generic ritual for the rest, which is pretty standard."
"Even the secular weddings usually have a throwaway line to Hera. It's bad luck to leave her out." Adia smiles a touch sheepishly and twists the wedding band on her finger. "Must be worse luck to leave out the Divine."
If it were just her and Jim, she'd ask him about those rituals, wanting to know if he ever feels any conflict between a universe ruled by natural laws and one that teems with magic and deities. She might even express her own concern about finding that balance within herself. But that's not really a conversation for a reception line. Maybe another time.
As if sensing the heaviness of his wife's thoughts, Caspar turns the conversation back to a lighter subject. "Replicated coffee still sounds better than what was passing for coffee on Atlantis. Too bad you never learned to like it, Felix. I'll bet a caffeinated mage could fire off spells like nobody's business."

They even came home mostly sober, which is impressive when dealing with Lartia.
"Well, the goddess of love takes centre stage, naturally, but every Divine has a part to play, as they say. And why get one blessing when you can get nine?" He winks at Jim and adds, "Counting Saint Martin. You really don't want to leave anyone out." Not in Cyrodiil, anyway. Other provinces are often more brisk about proceedings, if they aren't focusing on their own local gods instead. "Which gods did you choose, in the end? As I recall you have even more than we do."
He does lift an eyebrow at Jim, almost serious for a moment. "Are you calling me a drunkard, love?" ...Yeah, no, he can't keep that up. He shakes his head, looks to Caspar. "Don't encourage him to get me into that stuff. A mage still needs steady hands." He smirks a little. "That's why we have our own, much more potent stimulants."

The captain stops pretending to be put out to turn his attention squarely back on Caspar and Adia a moment. He's never much talked to either of them about their gods or religions--at the end of the day coming form two space faring peoples among a sea of those who don't has always been a more easy line of conversation. He's curious, too.
"No. I've seen the rest of your family now. I know better." So does his liver. There's no time to actually wince though when Felix admits there's a whole line of potion types he's somehow neglected to tell his husband about at all. He looks between Caspar and Felix a few times. Can you believe this???
"Wait, there are? Where were those when we were trying to finish all the preparations? Or during the outbreak of Ruvarian flu we had a couple months ago where Bones and I were pulling triple shifts?"
no subject
"Is Spock here?" Caspar asks quietly, trying not to sound too curious. He's mostly here as Adia's plus one, but he wouldn't say no to chatting with a Vulcan.
"Twelve," Adia confirms, for the number of gods. "We lit a candle for Persephone. It's tradition to include the Lord you were dedicated to at birth. And a candle for Artemis. She's the Lord of Moon, among other things." Adia chances a glance skyward, absently twisting her wedding band around her finger. "After, um... well, that Halloween, I thought it would be prudent."
"A potent stimulant?" Caspar interjects, purposely changing the subject back to something lighter. "Is it cocaine?"
"Caspar." Adia gives him a scandalized look.
"Sorry. Is it magic cocaine?" Caspar smirks. Let him have some fun where he can, all right?

It's a good thing Felix has a good memory for names and affinities. Caspar really doesn't seem comfortable staying on the subject of gods, although Felix too is a little glad not to dwell on that Halloween. He catches himself glancing back at Jim, thoughts of what the Nightmares put him through coming to the fore. A subject change isn't a bad idea. Albeit one that has him quirking an amused smirk.
"I'm afraid I'm not sure what that is." Not that context and the look on Adia's face aren't very good clues. "Though it sounds more fun than my restorative draughts."

"They're both here as a matter of fact. Bones has probably been sticking close to the bar with Mister Scott, my chief engineer. If Spock's not with a dark haired woman judging the quality of the music here I'd be willing to be he's found the most crowded area of the party just for a chance to mingle and talk to people from other worlds. Though, admittedly, most of my crew are the curious sort." A glance toward Felix. "Maybe not Lieutenant Norn, so much. Did he come today? I haven't seen him."
Jim nods at the assessment of Stratos' wherabouts. He's seen the man once or twice so far but they haven't had the chance to talk for long. Stratos is bound to be around somewhere. Nor does he speak up at mention of the Halloween Adia mentions. His jaw clenches and smile strains just a bit but the wounds of that night are far away enough now for him not to falter. One more trial he's come out of the other side from.
It won't stop him from being grateful to see them move on though. Even if the subject turns unprofessional quickly. Caspar even startles a small chuckle from the captain.
"I've yet to see anything that potent from an Alchemy table. Not sure they can manage that kind of upper. I was thinking something closer to the line of caffeine pills." The captain is neglecting to account for the fact that he is a novice alchemist. As such, Felix has never shown him anything more potent than the most minor of potions. At least so far he doesn't remember the only times he's ever had to drink a more potent healing draught. He points to Caspar then, grinning outright once more.
"It probably is still magic though, I'll give you that."

When Felix scans the crowd and the remarks on his brother's knack for being scarce at parties, she can't help but grin. "Sounds like him," she agrees affably. "Something we have in common. Well, used to, anyway, it's a lot easier to be at social events when I know people." And when she has her husband with her, of course.
The subject of Halloween has been left firmly behind for magic cocaine, which Adia doesn't seem to know how to react. On the one hand, Caspar is being awfully flippant, but on the other hand, Jim apparently finds it hilarious, and Felix doesn't seem to mind, either. "Cocaine isn't fun," she feels obligated to point out.
"Hey, at least it's not magic meth," Caspar offers. The look Adia gives him makes him laugh out loud. "Okay, okay. Fine. Although I don't know how a draught that works like caffeine is any different than coffee."
no subject
"It sounds to me," he comments, listening to them, "like the two of you are talking about something more akin to moon sugar than anything based on respectable-" or legal- "alchemy." He sniffs. "Anyway, I've never seen coffee have the same effect- physical or mental - as a proper restorative. And without the side-effects. I wasn't kidding about needing steady hands."
no subject
"Caspar might scare him." Jim comments idly, but it's mostly teasing. The Andorian has a lot more backbone than people tend to give him credit for. "But, in all seriousness, I've mentioned you both by name enough that they should know Of you both at least. "You two should go try out the food, maybe the dancing. Have a good night! That's why we wanted to host a party here, after all."
Sharing some Good memories with their friends is more important than anything else done here tonight.

"If i did, I'd settle for black tea," Caspar adds. "We have plenty of that on Atlantis."
But anyway. There are other people who want to congratulate the happy couple, and as Jim points out, there is plenty to do at their reception. "We will, Jim. Felix. Thanks again for letting us celebrate with you." She gives Jim a hug, and offers one to Felix, and even Caspar seems amenable to a handshake or two. "I'll look for Norn since you think we'll get along." It's always nice to meet someone new. Even Caspar looks interested, although that might be from the possibility, however teasing, of being feared. Old habits die hard for a Cylon.
