A Very Nexus Reception

To all the friends of the happy grooms, PINpoint messages have already been sent weeks ago inviting them to expect quite the street party arranged in the commons of the Nexus. Guests have been invited to bring an appetite--both for food and for a social adventure. Nirnish weddings are public affairs, after all. While the ceremony has had to be somewhat sequestered for the sake of keeping the existence of Other Worlds a secret, neither Felix nor Jim would want to leave out their interdimensional friends entirely. Having a reception party arranged in the Nexus became the natural plan of action.

Overnight large sections of the Commons are transformed via diligent craftsmanship and quite a lot of magic from those who’ve volunteered. Lanterns representing the Divines are hung along every lamp post, bringing at least the idea of warmth even if the flames are too small to heat their surroundings alone. Bardic tunes carry in the air as readily as the scent of food and drink. Past banners of red and black, blue and white the people gather.

For both grooms this is nearly a continuation of the day before. They’ve had the chance to sleep off the nerves of their ceremony. Today is entirely for celebration--uninhibited celebration at that. No more minding what is said and isn’t. No more pretending to be anything other than who they are. Jim’s traded out his Nirnish finery for a suit and tie, garments he’s much more familiar with. Felix is staying with his native clothing; though he may have dressed down a little from his wedding clothes, the conjurer’s dressed in fitted breeches and his best fur-trimmed coat and boots, the soft hide dyed blue to match his tunic. By their side sits the conjurer’s spectral wolf familiar, ears pricked at the gathering.

As the guests find their ways over it will be easy to spot their friends amidst all the decor along with many other avenues with which to enjoy themselves….

Greetings

Food and Drink

Music and Dancing

Bonfire Entertainment

Party Games

There's a more familiar looking scene to one side of the field - cloaks and masks and antigrav bikes, different in style but similar in nature to things Dia will have seen many times in her own universe. Closer by are the horses, attended by squires and grooms in simple clothes, with the knights in their green and gold armor. They seem quite old-fashioned by comparison, being assisted in tightening their pauldrons and securing their greaves in place. One of the squires is hauling a set of training lances over to a little floating Ghost for inspection. Not Blaze's: this one has a curved golden shell, but the Exo's probably around somewhere...

"Dia!" Doesn't take a Force-user's senses to hear that heavy tread coming. Blaze salutes to her as soon as the ex-Sith looks round, almost aglow with anticipation. "Are you going to ride in the joust?"

True, she's not difficult to spot when she's not actively hiding herself, but trained senses hear Blaze coming before she announces herself, "Far be it from me to admit it, but I'm hardly dressed for the task at hand."

After all, it's a very basic, functional, but still dressy-in-a-nice kind of way sort of dress. Really, her belt and lightsaber look out of place with it, but she's cautious to a point, and the weapon goes literally everywhere she does if she can help it.

Hmm. She does have a point. Blaze considers it and admits, "Guess it might be hard to joust in a dress. Could get one of the others to lend you a change of armor though, if you want to try." She nudges the other woman's shoulder, enthusiasm spurring her on. "I already know you can pull off a cape."

Dia cuts a sideways glance up at the much taller titan, eyes narrowed. She's definitely considering it to say the least, and she's certainly sizing up at least a couple of people who are ... mostly similar in size. Dia's not tall, as she's shorter and got a little curve to her.

"I suppose I could, it's just a matter of finding someone with similar ...proportions to mine, I suppose."

She'd grin ear-to-ear if she could. Blaze claps her hands and then points to the Hunter over by the Sparrows. The woman in her light space armor and cloak is smaller than Blaze, much closer to Dia's size. Her little Ghost is zipping between would-be contestants and the armor pieces she's laying out, blue eye flitting this way and that.

"I bet Turnstone's got something that'll fit you. Ghosts are really good at making adjustments on the fly. You wouldn't believe how often I've scrounged new gear from some ancient cache and mine's had to fix it. Come on, I'll introduce you!"

"I suppose that makes some sense." Over the past few years, Dia's had to make ...adjustsments to clothing she's acquired over time, particularly after her exile. "Alright, let's see how this goes."

Dia starts in Turnstone's direction, if nothing else, this whole thing's got her curious, at least.

Blaze strides along beside her, not waiting until they're halfway to wave and yell "Hey! Turnstone, over here!"

The woman they're approaching is masked and hooded, but there's definite surprise in her body language when she turns. Her gear is patterned light blue and pale green, her cloak a shimmering matrix of translucent blue-white material. She lifts a hand in bemused greeting, attention on the woman Blaze is showing her way. Her Ghost flits over to peek with a whisper of antigravs.

"Dia, this is Ime Turnstone, one of our Hunters. Turnstone, this is Dia'ndria Starfall. She's a friend of mine. She's gonna ride in the joust, but she'll need to borrow some armor."

"Sure." The Hunter nods to Dia, more reserved than her noisy colleague but not unfriendly. "You have a ride of your own?"

It's a little strangely like home in a few senses of the word. Masked, hooded individuals were common among the Sith, usually to hide scars, or in her former Master's case, it acted as a life support system. So she's not too taken aback by Turnstone's appearance.

"Ah, no. I do have one, but I didn't bring it here as I didn't think I'd need it." Because bringing her speeder to the party didn't really make much sense when it was within walking distance and didn't require carrying things.

"But truthfully I'd be more comfortable using a speeder than one of the beasts." As she's never, y'know. Seen a garden variety horse before, let alone ridden anything similar. "As that's what I've got the most experience with piloting."

"Hmm." Blaze rubs an antenna, thinking over options. "I'd lend you mine, but I want to challenge you first. And my spare's in pieces back on the ship. Had to get it refitted for- a friend." Of course, the heavy models she favors, tuned to sling a Titan's weight around, might not suit Dia anyway. She fixes her golden optics on Turnstone, who stiffens slightly as she guesses what's coming.

"Hey, Turnstone-"

"You want to ride against my Sparrow?" It's not Dia who's getting the Look, but the sparks in the air are nearly palpable. "Unlikely. I heard what happened to your last one."

Blaze pulls herself up in surprised defence. "An accident in the heat of battle! I'm not gonna melt anything! Especially when I'm not even riding it. Dia will take care of the bike, right?"

[personal profile] pathfromdarknesstogray 2020-01-09 03:00 am (UTC)(link)
Being shorter and smaller than a Titan, Dia's definitely not the sort for a heavier bike. Dia's got some weight on her bones, sure, but she's still athletic, and is all about speed and precision.

Although she supposes using the Force in a joust might be unfair. At least, directly.

For her part, though, Dia crosses her arms and shifts her weight, watching the two, back and forth. "And besides that, I'll need armor. I don't have anything quite for this."

As being an assassin means traveling as light as possible, rather than trying to tank any hits.

Turnstone looks between the two of them, lets out a long sigh, and relents. Partly she's banking that Dia's more careful than Blaze, and partly she figures watching a Titan get knocked on her ass is something worth facilitating.

"All right. Got some light armor you can try on for size," she says to Dia. She jerks a thumb at the Ghost beside her with a gloved hand. "Tuulikki'll help if you need it. When you're kitted out you can take my Sparrow for a spin. Had to mod it to ride higher from the ground. Horses are kinda tall." She gestures to the bike sitting nearby.

"As for you-" Blaze is surprised to find Turnstone pointing a finger up at her. "You better dress down. You're an Exo, you don't need the protection, and all the extra mass you're packing will make you harder to knock off. That's not exactly fair."

"...Oh." Blaze looks as disconcerted as her face allows. She looks down at her plate, dismayed to be parted from it, but seeing the point. Having an extra fraction of a tonne in relic iron and inertial sinks worked into your armor is liable to tip the scales in both senses of the phrase. "Guess I'll find something, uh, lighter to wear." She gives the assassin a friendly nod before she pulls away. "See you on the field, Dia."
