A Very Nexus Reception

To all the friends of the happy grooms, PINpoint messages have already been sent weeks ago inviting them to expect quite the street party arranged in the commons of the Nexus. Guests have been invited to bring an appetite--both for food and for a social adventure. Nirnish weddings are public affairs, after all. While the ceremony has had to be somewhat sequestered for the sake of keeping the existence of Other Worlds a secret, neither Felix nor Jim would want to leave out their interdimensional friends entirely. Having a reception party arranged in the Nexus became the natural plan of action.

Overnight large sections of the Commons are transformed via diligent craftsmanship and quite a lot of magic from those who’ve volunteered. Lanterns representing the Divines are hung along every lamp post, bringing at least the idea of warmth even if the flames are too small to heat their surroundings alone. Bardic tunes carry in the air as readily as the scent of food and drink. Past banners of red and black, blue and white the people gather.

For both grooms this is nearly a continuation of the day before. They’ve had the chance to sleep off the nerves of their ceremony. Today is entirely for celebration--uninhibited celebration at that. No more minding what is said and isn’t. No more pretending to be anything other than who they are. Jim’s traded out his Nirnish finery for a suit and tie, garments he’s much more familiar with. Felix is staying with his native clothing; though he may have dressed down a little from his wedding clothes, the conjurer’s dressed in fitted breeches and his best fur-trimmed coat and boots, the soft hide dyed blue to match his tunic. By their side sits the conjurer’s spectral wolf familiar, ears pricked at the gathering.

As the guests find their ways over it will be easy to spot their friends amidst all the decor along with many other avenues with which to enjoy themselves….

Greetings

Food and Drink

Music and Dancing

Bonfire Entertainment

Party Games

Major Tom! Felix snaps his fingers in recognition- of course they've talked about this. "It's a fine gift. Most people back home just bring something for the wedding feast, you know. All the better if these come with a dash of luck. I need all I can get."

He gives Jim an affectionate nudge. "I think Jim's been having more of it, but then I can't get too far into my cups just yet. I do have a demonstration to give yet." Something that might be of particular interest to Danny. Especially since - he admits to himself with a touch of regret - he hasn't been doing very well with the teaching end of things lately.

"I've never been to a wedding," he says with a grin and a shrug. "Pretty sure where I come from people just hire catering companies."

Danny has been doing some teaching of himself, in the meantime. He's not been bereft of magical influences. He's spent time in Hermione's world, exchanged emails with Horvath, and made friends with Penninah. He's in a weird position, maybe, out of step with the rest of the people here thanks to being young, and alone, and unsupervised. It's still a vast improvement over where he came from.

Talk of a demonstration makes him perk up, looking from Felix to Jim hopefully. "Hey, if there's anything I can do to help, count me in."

Wow, and here he thought a wedding reception might be boring!

Felix has to chuckle at Jim's insistent enthusiasm. The man is endlessly supportive when it comes to kids and Felix's magic alike. Put the two together and it makes him endearingly delighted. Determined, too, but Felix tends to overlook that.

"Well, I can hardly turn down some help." He eyes his husband sidelong for a moment, amused, before he turns to Danny. "I'm planning to show off some of the conjuration spells I've been working on. Modifications and extensions of the standard summonings, mostly, but ones I've never heard of anyone performing. I have you to thank for some of the ideas, actually. But I'll admit, I doubt I have your artistic flair when it comes to presenting them..."

"You're going to do summonings in the middle of a crowd of people??" Danny gives a low whistle. He takes it all back, that's exactly the kind of thing that would happen at a Morganian party. Presumably Felix isn't planning to unleash the subjects of said summonings on his party guests, though.

"That is ballsy, mate. I am so in." His genuine enthusiasm for this project might actually be a red flag. "Wait, how do you mean you have me to thank for some of the ideas?"

This is getting better and better. The social awkwardness he walked in with has flown out the window.

"Going to? I've already performed one," Felix answers loftily, gesturing at his familiar skulking nearby. That doesn't really count though, like comparing a hobby horse to a riled young stallion. "Besides, I know what I'm doing."

He's 99% sure. He's spent hours practicing not to fall flat on his face or let a wild scamp loose in a crowd of revelers. Danny's enthusiasm is only going to buoy him up here.

"Well, speaking with you reminded me that there's value in bringing a bit of showmanship to my craft," he explains with a wink. "It's been years since I tried putting my magic to use at a party." His specialty, at least. He glances at Jim. "Though I suppose we'd better confer without you, Jim, if I'm to save any surprises to impress you with..."

"Right, okay, and he's definitely over my pay grade, but there's a difference between a familiar and a--" Danny gestures loosely, because he's not sure what or who Felix plans to conjure here, but really, opening any doorway between worlds and inviting something through is a dicey prospect.

The fact that it's dicey is exactly what Danny likes about it, though. If Jim remembers any of this conversation later, he may wish to draw the lesson from it that Danny is not going to be the one to urge Felix toward restraint.

The compliment makes him beam--hook, line, and sinker, here--and he straightens up his sweater as if he's gearing up for a performance. He leans over and pats Jim's shoulder, bright eyed. "He already admitted he's trying to impress you. Can't do that if you're not in the front row to be impressed."

As Jim departs, Danny looks a little like a puppy that's seen its owner get out the leash for a walk, only to be interrupted by a phone call. He likes the Captain; he does! But he knows Felix better and he's understandably excited to get to confer.

"AS if I'd let you get out of coming to watch." Really, Jim. He turns a conspiratorial grin on Danny once the man's out of earshot. "You don't need to worry. You don't need to know much about the daedra I'm summoning, though I daresay you'll pick up a few things as we go."

He glances around to make sure nobody's looking for him immediately, then places a hand on Danny's arm to guide him over to a quieter corner. "Without giving everything away, I wanted to show off a few new familiar spells, then the basic elementals- you know, fire, frost, lightning-" these probably aren't the standard where Danny's from, but Felix isn't thinking about that, "before I swallow as much magicka potion as I can and try for something really special."
