A Very Nexus Reception
To all the friends of the happy grooms, PINpoint messages have already been sent weeks ago inviting them to expect quite the street party arranged in the commons of the Nexus. Guests have been invited to bring an appetite--both for food and for a social adventure. Nirnish weddings are public affairs, after all. While the ceremony has had to be somewhat sequestered for the sake of keeping the existence of Other Worlds a secret, neither Felix nor Jim would want to leave out their interdimensional friends entirely. Having a reception party arranged in the Nexus became the natural plan of action.
Overnight large sections of the Commons are transformed via diligent craftsmanship and quite a lot of magic from those who’ve volunteered. Lanterns representing the Divines are hung along every lamp post, bringing at least the idea of warmth even if the flames are too small to heat their surroundings alone. Bardic tunes carry in the air as readily as the scent of food and drink. Past banners of red and black, blue and white the people gather.
For both grooms this is nearly a continuation of the day before. They’ve had the chance to sleep off the nerves of their ceremony. Today is entirely for celebration--uninhibited celebration at that. No more minding what is said and isn’t. No more pretending to be anything other than who they are. Jim’s traded out his Nirnish finery for a suit and tie, garments he’s much more familiar with. Felix is staying with his native clothing; though he may have dressed down a little from his wedding clothes, the conjurer’s dressed in fitted breeches and his best fur-trimmed coat and boots, the soft hide dyed blue to match his tunic. By their side sits the conjurer’s spectral wolf familiar, ears pricked at the gathering.
As the guests find their ways over it will be easy to spot their friends amidst all the decor along with many other avenues with which to enjoy themselves….
Greetings

Runa and Viatorus
As soon as she spies the lucky couple, she bounds over, tugging at Viatorus' sleeve to follow. He's a little slower as he has to focus on magically bringing their gift along. Unburdened, Runa runs over and hugs Jim and then Felix.
"Congratulations! I'm so happy for you!" The way she beams there's no doubt about that.
When Viatorus catches up to her he's followed by a heavy black cauldron with a wreath around its neck floating along after him. As soon as they stop, however, it sets itself onto the ground. His smile may be weaker than his wife's, but that's more on account of being at a party than anything else. "Congratulations. I hope the wedding went well."
Runa claps her hands together. "Can I see your rings? Please?"
no subject
Both eyebrows are making a mad dash for his hairline though when he spies the cauldron following in Viatorus' wake. He wants so badly to ask but the conversation doesn't slow in the least.
"I'm glad you two could make it." There's a touch of nerves left in Jim's laugh even now when he thinks back to the ceremony the day before. "I...I think it did. I don't think I screwed anything up too badly?"
He's only half kidding when he turns to Felix with the question.
no subject
So saying, he'll happily hold his hand out for Runa to inspect the simple wedding bands. More precious than the gold is the divine blessing bound into them, the touch of Mara to keep them both a little safer. "It's good to see you both- I presume that means Isidor won't be far away, either...?"
no subject
When she relinquishes Felix's fingers she beams at Jim. "I only had a handful of gods to memorise. I've been talking to Stratos and-! Well. I'm very impressed that you did so well, and I'm really very happy for you both!"
"We both are," Viatorus chimes in earnestly.
"Speaking of gods... I made a wreath for you," Runa tells them. "To hang in your home. I tried my best to honour your gods-" She catches Felix's eye. "All your gods. I don't know how similar our flowers are, but I did my best to match what suited."
"The cauldron was Runa's idea too," Viatorus admits.
"Mm. There are a few charms on it to keep it resilient, and a few Nordic designs just for style," she tells them with a little wink. "It's important to have the right tools in your home."
"And..." Viatorus clears his throat and then lowers his voice. "And from Isidor and I... We had a compilation of notable papers and essays from our family copied and bound for you both." His eyes linger on Jim, watching his expression when he adds, "Including a few from our current Archon."
no subject
"Is it a ward of some kind? A charm?" Jim doesn't quite follow what the wreath is For even if he understands it must be important. The cauldron too is a curious mystery to him even though it's very impressive to see hovering almost delicately behind Viatorus. "You two really didn't have to, but thank you. I'm sure--"
The words die in Jim's throat. He might not have understood fully the reason for the gifts before, but this. Information to utilize in his personal studies. Including the Archon? Does Felix even remember what it was like to meet that man? He had only just begun to lose control of the desires that drew him to the Runeblades at the time. The captain gapes for several seconds before his breath rushes out in one go. The laugh he gives is starved of air, nothing more than a few gasps really.
"You're joking. Really?" He can't contain the beaming smile creeping across his face. "I'll treasure them and make full use of them. Thank you. All of you."
no subject
"It's home," he says softly, answering Jim's question before he gets to his feet and bows to Runa, then Viatorus. "Thank you. This is... incredibly thoughtful."
Oh, but there's more? Felix feels a jolt of excitement as the Dreamwalker speaks- but that's nothing to the excitement he feels emanating from Jim. Their cross-universe magical studies have suffered since his... indiscretions with the Runeblades, but in a moment Felix feels them rejuvenated. The very prospect of such precious knowlege, secrets of the Durants themselves- even the very Archon - wakes that hunger in him. In both of them - and how good it is to see Jim smile that way, to hear the eager interest in his voice. With the wedding finally behind them, surely this is exactly the kind of thing they need. New ventures; new ground to foray into together.
"From both of us," he adds to Jim's thanks. "We know how utterly precious such knowledge is; we could hardly ask for a more valuable gift." Especially considering Isidor was involved. It's rather a shock to think the Patron would consent to give such information to Felix to play with, but he's grateful. "You'll have to check in on us to make sure we're putting all of this to good use- cauldron included," he adds with a wink to Runa. "I've never had a proper one to work with, let alone one so beautiful."
no subject
That being said, she smiles and rolls her eyes a little at the reaction to the books. Now, more than ever, she is surrounded by complete nerds. Especially with Viatorus so cheered by how enthusiastic they both seem.
"I-It's a bit of an odd selection, and some of the writing is a bit... dense," he winces as he admits it. "But I specifically requested the Archon's most recent writing to be in there. I knew you'd both want a look."
"The cauldron is cast iron," Runa adds with a knowing smile when Viatorus is done excitedly-apologising. She turns her grin onto the newlyweds. "It's very heavy, but it will stand almost anything you put into it. If it doesn't survive your lifetimes I'll eat my own shoe. You'll have to tell us what you make with your books and your cauldron... Have you got a home for yourselves yet?"
no subject
The wreath and cauldron are home, as sure as anything else. Jim doesn't understand, not really, what the magic is or what it does. But he understands the way the word sounds when Felix says it. The way Runa beams to see her work recognized for what it is and how her husband watches her enjoy the moment without moving to interrupt it. A splash of color fills his cheeks when he ducks his head to nod.
Home, indeed.
It's good of Runa to tolerate such unabashed nerds in her sphere of influence, though of any of them Felix might feign hurt to be called as much. For V and Jim both the descriptor is very apt.
"Believe me, I have more Starfleet regulation memorized than anyone wants to see committed to paper. Dense doesn't bother me." Jim hasn't forgotten his own promise, either. Even if he hasn't had the time of late to turn his attention back to this area of study. When he has a journal finished the Durants will be getting a copy.
Cast iron cookware is something Jim understands, and for a moment he beams again because if nothing else he knows how to clean this. Leonard was quite adamant in teaching him how to treat cast iron when they were living together at the Academy. He glances back at Felix to see if the mage is as eager for the prospect of giving these things a try as he is.
"There's the Caelus family home in Bruma, of course. Our room will always be there." Jim never thought he'd count a place on Nirn as a home until now, but Nereus was quite clear at just how welcome they were in that house. His mouth feels dry when he clears his throat. "There's the ship, obviously. But...we have a house back on Earth. My...father's family home. It's ours, now."
no subject
He's standing out of reach for Jim to shove him, no luck there captain.
His fingers trace around the rim of the cauldron as the others speak. He hopes the flowers will last a long while; the magic woven into them- no, by them, somehow - is unfamiliar to him.
"I'd like to put the wreath there," he says, when Jim mentions the house. "In the farmhouse. And since I've been teaching Jim as much alchemy as I can, I've no doubt the cauldron will be put to the test between the two of us. You're welcome to sample the results, once we have the hang of using it."
no subject
"A farmhouse!" Runa seems as delighted by the sound of that as by her wreath hanging there. "How wonderful! It's a brilliant sort of place to start your life together. Fit for some peace and quiet and space, but also ready for whatever projects you come up with." She bounces on the spot and looks between them. "Can you take pictures for me? I love seeing houses!"
no subject
Felix will get his just desserts later.
So much has changed in the years he's known Felix. Jim's honestly surprised at how ready and genuine his smile is at the mention of the house in Iowa. A place he loathed for so long, once more considered a home. It will be a long, long time until the Starfleet captain is ready to use it as such but for now it makes for a nice place of reprieve when the pair of them need a quiet place to steal away for a little while.
"I can do that. Kitchen will probably not look quite the way you think it should, but it's an Old farmhouse, so the rest of it probably doesn't look too far off your time."
no subject
"Of course, we won't be able to spend much time there, living on the ship," he says instead. "But perhaps one of these days you could come and visit our home in Tamriel. If you'd like to, of course."
no subject
"I think all both accustomed to places outside our norm," she says, hooking her arm through Viatorus'.
"I'd like to see the ship, too," the scholar adds hastily.
With a giggle, Runa leans forward and corrects, "He'd like to see everywhere. But we can't take our eyes off him for a second."
"Jim's the explorer," Viatorus pouts. "You should be making jokes like that about him, not me."
no subject
This man's grin is positively electric with excitement. Where Isidor could barely handle looking outside the window at Yorktown Viatorus followed Jim around all over the base when the scholar came to visit. Now they want to see Nirn and the ship???
"The ship will be trickier than the other two, but given enough time I think I can manage all three. The house in Tamriel, our place in Iowa. And the ship. Sneaking someone out to the observation deck over gamma shift isn't too hard but that's not exactly a tour, is it?"
no subject
(Jim hasn't done this in ages, he'd be right to find it unfair.)
The conjurer looks almost as delighted as the captain when he turns to Jim. "Really? Well, now I'm intrigued. We're only married a day and you're scheming to sneak unauthorized personnel onto Starfleet's finest ship?" He grins. "I can hardly wait."
no subject
The scholar is already a little distracted. "Do you bungee jump, Jim?"
He doesn't know why else anyone would jump from somewhere high. Especially when you don't have air magic.
no subject
absolutelyagainst Starfleet Regulations in any capacity. "And the last time I jumped out of anywhere it was to evacuate the ship. Not for fun." The tiniest huff before he regains his composure."I'll figure something out for the ship. Promise. In the meantime, the other two places are marginally safer to arrange." He gives a half shrug toward Viatorus though.
"It's more akin to what I think you'd call base jumping. Or..like a space walk, when an emergency calls for it." Not that he'd been tethered for that but why give Felix more ammunition to use against him? "For some reason my Starfleet career has included a lot of fairly precise drops like that. It's a good thing I happen to enjoy the sport."
For one thing, no one's trying to kill you aside from gravity when you do it for fun.
"For some reason, Felix has never seemed keen on doing it with me."
no subject
His smirk cracks in a hurry when recreational jumping-off-of-things comes up. "I grew up on a mountain, learning not to fall off the edge was lesson number one! You're just lucky you have good aim."
Felix shakes his head, deciding he'd better distract Jim before this idea goes any further. "We shouldn't keep you from enjoying the party, really. Will we be seeing you two on the dance floor?"
no subject
"You'll convince him yet, don't worry," Runa assures Jim with a wink.
As for the question of dancing... Well that stumps an awkward Viatorus. His wife only lets him flounder for a few seconds before jumping in with, "You won't be able to stop me. As for Viatorus..." She glances at the guilty looking scholar before grinning at Felix again. "We'll see what we can do."
"We mustn't keep you from your guests." Letting go of Viatorus, Runa hugs both of them in turn. "I am so happy for you! Enjoy tonight! And the rest of your lives!"
no subject
"There's members of quite a few Federation species here, since some of my crew have come along." Jim offers to Viatorus. He's remembered all too well how difficult the mage found it to look in any one direction in Yorktown. If dancing isn't to his liking he's welcome to be a nerd in good company. Important to offer something of interest to All of his guests, at that.
"It's really an honor to have you two here." When he's finished returning Runa's hug Jim swaps the books to his left hand so he can offer Viatorus his other to shake. "You both have a good night and we'll catch up with you later."
