A Very Nexus Reception

To all the friends of the happy grooms, PINpoint messages have already been sent weeks ago inviting them to expect quite the street party arranged in the commons of the Nexus. Guests have been invited to bring an appetite--both for food and for a social adventure. Nirnish weddings are public affairs, after all. While the ceremony has had to be somewhat sequestered for the sake of keeping the existence of Other Worlds a secret, neither Felix nor Jim would want to leave out their interdimensional friends entirely. Having a reception party arranged in the Nexus became the natural plan of action.
Overnight large sections of the Commons are transformed via diligent craftsmanship and quite a lot of magic from those who’ve volunteered. Lanterns representing the Divines are hung along every lamp post, bringing at least the idea of warmth even if the flames are too small to heat their surroundings alone. Bardic tunes carry in the air as readily as the scent of food and drink. Past banners of red and black, blue and white the people gather.
For both grooms this is nearly a continuation of the day before. They’ve had the chance to sleep off the nerves of their ceremony. Today is entirely for celebration--uninhibited celebration at that. No more minding what is said and isn’t. No more pretending to be anything other than who they are. Jim’s traded out his Nirnish finery for a suit and tie, garments he’s much more familiar with. Felix is staying with his native clothing; though he may have dressed down a little from his wedding clothes, the conjurer’s dressed in fitted breeches and his best fur-trimmed coat and boots, the soft hide dyed blue to match his tunic. By their side sits the conjurer’s spectral wolf familiar, ears pricked at the gathering.
As the guests find their ways over it will be easy to spot their friends amidst all the decor along with many other avenues with which to enjoy themselves….

"'Course, we can fly it with a crew of two, but that ain't as fun." More lonely, he means, but he's not saying that part out loud.

“No, I don’t think so.” Han says with a shrug. “She believes in the force as far as I can tell.”

Date: 2020-01-05 03:33 am (UTC)"We like to keep a low profile these days," he answers easily, still absently scritching at Tiber's chin. It's not entirely how he would've chosen to live out retirement, but maybe it's better for him in the end; he hadn't enjoyed the last time he'd tried. Besides, with Spock, what more does he really need? Here, they can build a home, and live out what years they have left together.

Date: 2020-01-05 02:03 pm (UTC)He tilts his head to the side, eyes wide with his curiosity. Another captain! How exciting.
"I have not met this Captain Solo but if he is good enough to work for a Princess I am sure he'd pass muster with my companions." It doesn't sound like the captain is as Official as any of them are by the way she talks about it though. Maybe a militia man from a colony?
"Is true. We..." The ensign trails off and his smile seems to go with it a moment. "We also have had shortages in the fleet recently. Many tragedies have wiped out whole portions of the fleet and taken out much of higher command. Recruitment efforts have been very high back home, I have heard." Pavel knows how hard it was to restaff their new ship even if he wasn't the one personally responsible for it. "You cannot give up Miss Leia. Plenty of people may want to join your fleet but may just need means to do so."
I couldn't resist
Date: 2020-01-05 02:19 pm (UTC)Another time, perhaps. Right now, Jim's in the company of Delia and Felix and couldn't be more pleased with this turn of events. Doubly so when games come into the topic of conversation.
"Like, fake playing badly, right?" Jim doesn't much see a point to learning something if you're not going to learn how to do it well, after all. "I used to shark loads of cargo drivers back in Iowa. Delia, you know how to play, right?" Between the two of them, they could probably teach Felix, right? Nevermind that it's the first Felix has ever mentioned being interested. Jim won't think of that now.

Date: 2020-01-05 02:32 pm (UTC)"You do, but trust me, it's an improvement. It's good to properly meet you, all th'same." Jim offers out his hand openly this time to shake. They'd toed around touching much last time when he was miserable with his allergies so the captain definitely wants to make a good impression now. Best of one he can while under the influence, at least. It's a relief to see the Arraka'aran getting along alright with Felix even without Jim there to mediate. Unless Rondo's not quite sure that he's speaking with a conjurer yet.
More curious is how distracted Felix seems to be when Jim glances his way to be sure both of them are getting on alright.
"Felix this is Rondo..." He sucks in a breath to stifle the swear that wants to come when he realizes he's forgotten the young man's last name. Think like the wind, Kirk. Charming smiles at maximum power. "A fellow scholar interested in the multiverse and magic within it." Just gonna go for the casual approach, it's fine. No one suspects a thing surely. "Rondo this is my..well. My husband now, Felix. He's ah, he's the mage I base a lot of my studies on. Though not th'only one, obviously. I'm glad to see you two met."

Date: 2020-01-05 02:37 pm (UTC)"Do you like the flying ship? What do you do?" If Rocket here is the captain and there are only a few of them, surely they must all be multi-faceted in their responsibilities. Age doesn't have much to do with it in her experience. She's in the Academy after all and barely more than a child. Plus there's Chekov. Younger people can do good too!

Date: 2020-01-05 02:52 pm (UTC)On the other hand, it probably makes the Pilot here less than comfortable. Especially given his line of questioning earlier.
"I've gotten used to it, more or less." Jim offers after Han's stopped watching and turned his attention back to the bonfire and to their own conversation. "The magic, I mean. Figured I might as well try to study it, figure out what makes it work." Something must. Jim's still convinced of that much.
"Just because I don't understand it yet doesn't mean it'd be impossible to comprehend."

Date: 2020-01-05 03:02 pm (UTC)Fearless, but definitely curious. A true explorer even at so advanced an age.
"It is gratifying to hear that young Jim still thinks fondly of us, even if he proves unwilling to forget about us as he should." Unwilling and moreso befriending the other alternate of himself he's run across. A dangerous game, that. But one Spock nearly expects of the human. "Would you speak some on how he is doing? How you both are faring?"
Spock looks up from where he's watching the familiar with softness in his dark eyes.
"Jim is a friend, you see. One I have sworn not to interfere with, but whom goes out of his way to look after us. Who put himself at risk to be sure we would be safe when trouble came to this place." He is not Spock's bond-mate. No one can replace the man seated next to him. But he is A Jim Kirk and in some respects Spock will always find himself worrying over the young captain. Both of them, even, though he knows the other less well.

"I've seen similar things with our Rebellion, we've lost whole worlds, fleets, good people." It pained her more than she could give words to. "But as you say, we cannot stop, what we're trying to do is too important."

Date: 2020-01-05 07:33 pm (UTC)"Your charges seem to be thriving-" the one child notwithstanding. "I hope the same can be said for you... and your researches?"
Careful, careful. Jim is well aware of what lies beneath this particular euphemism (for once) but there's no need to go making it obvious to anyone else.

or let a wild scamp loose in a crowd of revelers. Danny's enthusiasm is only going to buoy him up here."Well, speaking with you reminded me that there's value in bringing a bit of showmanship to my craft," he explains with a wink. "It's been years since I tried putting my magic to use at a party." His specialty, at least. He glances at Jim. "Though I suppose we'd better confer without you, Jim, if I'm to save any surprises to impress you with..."

"I am Groot!" That's not what I said! Groot frowns at him as best he can, which Rocket pretends not to notice.

"We'll make the time. It's a little easier for me currently. Runa is taking on more of my duties to Viatorus whether I like it or not." And her mother is so eager for her to set things up so that she can focus on raising a few little-Durants. Another thing Jim will have to help her vent about. "Do you even get time off when you're on your ship?"

"Oh you'll have to help me into it," she says as she comes over, brushing the cold metal with her fingertips. "And you'll have to take a photo."
Biting her lip, she grimace-grins at him. "Are you sure this is going to fit? You're so tall and muscular! I'm the exact opposite of you."

His gaze slowly shifts to The Orc, where he lingers for a moment before muttering, “You look good for your age.”

Date: 2020-01-06 06:49 pm (UTC)Delia herself is rather pleased with this as well, having heard about Felix from Jim, she's happy to see they're all getting along oh-so-well. "Although some might've called me a hustler in the olden days of yore."
Hopefully, Felix knows what he's getting into, with these two together.

Date: 2020-01-06 07:08 pm (UTC)What could possibly go wrong with carrying a replica of godly magic? Especially for a conjurer who makes a point to not step too far into any one deity's domain lest they start to think he's interested in selling off his soul?
In fact, it's not until Felix pointedly starts picking and choosing this words that Jim's farm-boy smile dwindles into a thoughtful frown. Not a very intelligent one given his altered state of consciousness but An Attempt is definitely being made.
"Oh. Ohhhhh. Right how's the--" Stepping out of the way of getting elbowed by Felix here. Even inebriated Jim Kirk knows how to keep a secret. "Everything going alright?" If he's not being subtle at least he's also not dropping details.

Date: 2020-01-06 07:47 pm (UTC)"You'll convince him yet, don't worry," Runa assures Jim with a wink.
As for the question of dancing... Well that stumps an awkward Viatorus. His wife only lets him flounder for a few seconds before jumping in with, "You won't be able to stop me. As for Viatorus..." She glances at the guilty looking scholar before grinning at Felix again. "We'll see what we can do."
"We mustn't keep you from your guests." Letting go of Viatorus, Runa hugs both of them in turn. "I am so happy for you! Enjoy tonight! And the rest of your lives!"

Date: 2020-01-06 08:12 pm (UTC)He can't even muster a frown when Felix all but tells him to leave off for a bit. When he tries it ends up as more of a petulant pout that shatters into a good natured chuckle mere seconds after it's been affected.
"Fine, fine! I see how it is." For once he doesn't seem to Actually be put out at being shooed away from Mages doing Mage Things. He can't honestly be bothered by much right now. "But you'd better send th'familiar after me First when th'show's about to start." His gaze snaps one more time between the two mages as if to press on them how serious he is before his drunken smile slowly finds its way back on his face and he nods to them both.
"Good t'see you Danny." He'll wander off and let the mages
Schemeplay.
