A Very Nexus Reception

To all the friends of the happy grooms, PINpoint messages have already been sent weeks ago inviting them to expect quite the street party arranged in the commons of the Nexus. Guests have been invited to bring an appetite--both for food and for a social adventure. Nirnish weddings are public affairs, after all. While the ceremony has had to be somewhat sequestered for the sake of keeping the existence of Other Worlds a secret, neither Felix nor Jim would want to leave out their interdimensional friends entirely. Having a reception party arranged in the Nexus became the natural plan of action.
Overnight large sections of the Commons are transformed via diligent craftsmanship and quite a lot of magic from those who’ve volunteered. Lanterns representing the Divines are hung along every lamp post, bringing at least the idea of warmth even if the flames are too small to heat their surroundings alone. Bardic tunes carry in the air as readily as the scent of food and drink. Past banners of red and black, blue and white the people gather.
For both grooms this is nearly a continuation of the day before. They’ve had the chance to sleep off the nerves of their ceremony. Today is entirely for celebration--uninhibited celebration at that. No more minding what is said and isn’t. No more pretending to be anything other than who they are. Jim’s traded out his Nirnish finery for a suit and tie, garments he’s much more familiar with. Felix is staying with his native clothing; though he may have dressed down a little from his wedding clothes, the conjurer’s dressed in fitted breeches and his best fur-trimmed coat and boots, the soft hide dyed blue to match his tunic. By their side sits the conjurer’s spectral wolf familiar, ears pricked at the gathering.
As the guests find their ways over it will be easy to spot their friends amidst all the decor along with many other avenues with which to enjoy themselves….

Date: 2019-12-07 10:33 pm (UTC)For those who just want to learn a new game, most of the players are quite laid-back and willing to show an alien stranger the rules. But anyone willing to wager a little more will find revelers equally willing to indulge them. Maybe a little too willing. There’s something about the atmosphere back here, or the heady liquor being passed around, or the man who hands it to you with a wicked grin and vanishes when you look away…
Oh, but you will have fun.

Date: 2019-12-07 10:49 pm (UTC)He doesn't know Felix or Jim very well, but he's always game for a party, and they seem like a good crew.
"This is good stuff," he says after polishing one off. He neatly wipes his scarred face with a napkin. "My compliments to the cook."

Date: 2019-12-07 11:24 pm (UTC)"Hello, Felix. It's been a while," says the mechanic, arms folded with that familiar cocky smile. He lifts his goggles. "Last time I bumped into you was that mess with the spiders. And Jim, haven't seen you since last winter. I want to offer both of you my congratulations - it's a long time since I've been to a wedding, and it's nice to see you in better circumstances."
He offers a hand, smile becoming a grin. "And hey, best of luck to you. Thanks for the party. You two went all out, I see."

Date: 2019-12-07 11:28 pm (UTC)This whole thing is still weird, watching himself stand up in front of a crowd and recite wedding vows that he's never heard before, but he couldn't be happier for Felix and the other Jim. It's too bad Hunter couldn't make it, but Jim has already delivered wedding gifts and well wishes from the both of them.
A fluffy orange kneazle can occasionally be seen trailing at his heels, or draped across the shoulder of his suit, or vanishing beneath the hanging tablecloths to hunt stray crumbs and passing shoelaces.

Date: 2019-12-07 11:31 pm (UTC)The treenager is still a little ungainly, his arms and legs a little longer than his body probably needs, but all the better for flailing around. What he lacks in grace he makes up for in enthusiasm, waving his arms in wide arcs that encourage people not to get too close, lest they get accidentally slapped across the face with a stray branch.

"I'm sorry, spiders?" Going on adventures without him a lot, are we Felix?

Date: 2019-12-08 12:16 am (UTC)It's beyond weird to be talking to a different version of Jim, but well. Weird is kind of their wheelhouse these days. The last couple days in Bruma have given the whole crew at least a small introduction to their captain's doppelganger. Just as charming and personable as the man they know.
"His Ma will want some of these. Eventually." Whenever Jim decides to tell her, that is. She's more apt to find out through personal records at this rate though.

He takes a sip out of his coffee mug.
"I"m glad you enjoy them."

Kinner picks up another honey cake. He's always enjoyed pastries, but Katsuya's are the best.
"I'm also a cook, you know. My specialty's seafood and stew, not baking, but I like to think I'm a good judge of food in general. And this is excellent."

Date: 2019-12-08 12:46 am (UTC)Yet it's not enough to get him to leave the table either. What could be the harm in a simple game, so long as he does not wager anything he doesn't mind losing? "Deal me in," he asks, leaning forward to rest his elbows against the table's edge.

Date: 2019-12-08 12:48 am (UTC)So, this is music from other worlds.
It's faint, but the physicist is smiling as he enjoys the strange songs. Some from the future, maybe, some from other universes entirely.
"Fascinating."

Date: 2019-12-08 12:54 am (UTC)Jim's looking between the two gentlemen with an audibly sharp inhale that peters out into a lingering sigh. Felix's entire posture is cagey all of a sudden and Palmer's wink is only further setting in Jim's suspicions that something potentially dangerous and possibly Awesome went down in the Nexus and nobody thought to invite him.
Or even tell him about it.
Jim brushes past Felix to finish the gesture he'd started and reaches out to shake Palmer's hand.
"Right, well. You won't find any of the wriggly bastards here at least. If the cold hasn't killed them for the season they might find themselves on the dinner table or under boots. I've a friend with a lovely recipe for the larger ones. I could get it from him."

Date: 2019-12-08 12:59 am (UTC)"A wager, eh?" He rummages in a bag by his side, drawing out a portion of last week's pay back at Big Magnet. There's a devil-may-care smile under that beard. "Don't mind if I take you up on that offer. My name's Eric Van Wall."

Date: 2019-12-08 01:05 am (UTC)He's peering around at the table well before he catches sight of Thor. The panic that briefly crosses Jim's face fades quickly. Time has been good for getting used to seeing the God without immediately fretting about impossibilities and coincidences.
"Is that poker?"

She makes a nice little pyramid of honey cakes on a plate first. And grins at the Crossroad staff that she recognizes, with a playful wink for them all. And she waves at Katsuya… but knows best not to linger, otherwise she would be put to work.
Then she stands at the open bar, deciding on a drink to start her night.

Date: 2019-12-08 01:39 am (UTC)Or maybe the sound it makes when it skitters across the walk with every bat of his paw is just that much fun. Felix's familiar may be on security detail but Tiber here is enjoying the party just as much as his bonded is.
Though he's easily distracted when he sniffs out another kneazle. What's all this then? Time to investigate.
