A Very Nexus Reception

To all the friends of the happy grooms, PINpoint messages have already been sent weeks ago inviting them to expect quite the street party arranged in the commons of the Nexus. Guests have been invited to bring an appetite--both for food and for a social adventure. Nirnish weddings are public affairs, after all. While the ceremony has had to be somewhat sequestered for the sake of keeping the existence of Other Worlds a secret, neither Felix nor Jim would want to leave out their interdimensional friends entirely. Having a reception party arranged in the Nexus became the natural plan of action.
Overnight large sections of the Commons are transformed via diligent craftsmanship and quite a lot of magic from those who’ve volunteered. Lanterns representing the Divines are hung along every lamp post, bringing at least the idea of warmth even if the flames are too small to heat their surroundings alone. Bardic tunes carry in the air as readily as the scent of food and drink. Past banners of red and black, blue and white the people gather.
For both grooms this is nearly a continuation of the day before. They’ve had the chance to sleep off the nerves of their ceremony. Today is entirely for celebration--uninhibited celebration at that. No more minding what is said and isn’t. No more pretending to be anything other than who they are. Jim’s traded out his Nirnish finery for a suit and tie, garments he’s much more familiar with. Felix is staying with his native clothing; though he may have dressed down a little from his wedding clothes, the conjurer’s dressed in fitted breeches and his best fur-trimmed coat and boots, the soft hide dyed blue to match his tunic. By their side sits the conjurer’s spectral wolf familiar, ears pricked at the gathering.
As the guests find their ways over it will be easy to spot their friends amidst all the decor along with many other avenues with which to enjoy themselves….

"Jim!" he says a little too loudly. "Felix. You two! I think the hardest part to believe about all'a this is that you both survived long enough for it to happen. Feelin' any different?"

"Harrow!" Much too loud for the distance between them but hey! He's excited! And it's his wedding anyway. Not catching sight of the blade on the knight's back is all the more reason to
stumblehurry over to greet his friend."Y'made it! Felix look!"

Date: 2019-12-24 11:01 pm (UTC)And yet he's still standing there. Long enough that Jim's calling out to him and the awkwardness registers in his own mildly sozzled brain. They're hosts. They're husbands. He can't snub a guest, can't leave his definitely more soused partner to face this alone even though he really wants to bolt.
But he can't. And oh. Oh yes, he had a plan in case this happened. Felix reaches back and tugs up the hood lying tucked unseen into his collar. It's made of shadow-grey silk, soft as a whisper as he pulls it over his head. There. Some protection, he hopes. Felix arranges a charming smile on his face and strolls closer in time to catch Harrow's question.
"I suppose you aren't the only one who'd be surprised," he remarks, smile twitching a little. "Hard to say if this-" he reaches out to touch Jim's arm- "feels any different. It's just more... official now."

He nods at each of them, then, and hefts the plant in his arm. "Well, fellas. I think this is the part where I give y'all your gifts. Took me a real long time to figure out what I was gonna give ya. Somethin' you'd both like, I figured. But useful, too. Had to be magical, of course. And maybe a little experimental."
He offers the plant to Felix, who seems the most sober of them all. If he's not, he's faking it well, anyway.
"It's a magical sorta plant from my world. Grows well in the cold. Don't need too much tendin', 'cause it's a wild thing. It's got magical properties, like I said. A good alchemist can coax it into bringin' out all sorts of magical benefits. But... Instead of givin' y'all any recipes, I figured I'd just give you the plant and let y'all explore it together. Figure out what it does, how it works, and all."
With the plant out of his hands he's free to reach into his breast pocket, then, where he withdraws a few paper pouches. Each has been labeled with full suns, half suns, and moons, and varying numbers of water droplets. He shakes the pouches, and they rattle distinctly.
"And when you get bored with that plant, here's a few more. They're all from my world, they're all good for somethin' or other, and I... think none of 'em'll kill ya."

Date: 2019-12-26 10:41 pm (UTC)"It is real good. We did it, we actually got away with it." This time Jim's laugh is full of nervous relief. One that tapers off when the plant is hefted up and brought out to face them both. In all the hurry Jim honestly hadn't paid it much attention until now. It's for them?? "Sweet! Felix loves eating random plants!" It's for science, Jim. For his alchemy? Well, it's not untrue in any case.
"That's a real--" Jim steadies himself and takes a breath. He wants to get this right. "Seriously. That's...thank you. We've been doing a lot of that together. I'd be happy to try my hand at learning somethin' new. Though Felix will probably have to take charge of it."
A gift they can enjoy together? Jim's honestly really touched. The emotion shows uninhibited on his face with how drunk he is, too. He grips Harrow's arm and gives it a couple pats before turning to see how Felix is taking this.

Date: 2019-12-30 05:40 pm (UTC)"I..." Wait, what did Jim just say? "I do not eat random plants. I sample those that seem alchemically promising." Hmf. (A touch of deja vu, here: another conversation, years ago now, half-serious verbal posturing as Jim introduced him to Harrow.)
He swallows then, shifting the plant to one arm so he can touch the glimmering tip of a vine. "It's a magnificent gift, Harrow, truly-" to say nothing of the seeds rattling in those packets. Felix doesn't realize the grin that's crept across his face. "You've given us the start of our own alchemy garden here."
