A Very Nexus Reception

To all the friends of the happy grooms, PINpoint messages have already been sent weeks ago inviting them to expect quite the street party arranged in the commons of the Nexus. Guests have been invited to bring an appetite--both for food and for a social adventure. Nirnish weddings are public affairs, after all. While the ceremony has had to be somewhat sequestered for the sake of keeping the existence of Other Worlds a secret, neither Felix nor Jim would want to leave out their interdimensional friends entirely. Having a reception party arranged in the Nexus became the natural plan of action.
Overnight large sections of the Commons are transformed via diligent craftsmanship and quite a lot of magic from those who’ve volunteered. Lanterns representing the Divines are hung along every lamp post, bringing at least the idea of warmth even if the flames are too small to heat their surroundings alone. Bardic tunes carry in the air as readily as the scent of food and drink. Past banners of red and black, blue and white the people gather.
For both grooms this is nearly a continuation of the day before. They’ve had the chance to sleep off the nerves of their ceremony. Today is entirely for celebration--uninhibited celebration at that. No more minding what is said and isn’t. No more pretending to be anything other than who they are. Jim’s traded out his Nirnish finery for a suit and tie, garments he’s much more familiar with. Felix is staying with his native clothing; though he may have dressed down a little from his wedding clothes, the conjurer’s dressed in fitted breeches and his best fur-trimmed coat and boots, the soft hide dyed blue to match his tunic. By their side sits the conjurer’s spectral wolf familiar, ears pricked at the gathering.
As the guests find their ways over it will be easy to spot their friends amidst all the decor along with many other avenues with which to enjoy themselves….

Date: 2019-12-27 11:06 pm (UTC)The rebellion had been able to pay him well for his services and looked the other way when his methods were less than scrupulous, war had a way of making ethics flexible. So Han could come and go as he please but with the additional attention he was getting for association with the rebellion it might have put a damper on his side jobs. She wasn’t sure how she felt about that but Han did come through for them more than once when it really mattered, so she endured as best she could.
Her movements were smooth up until he asked her that question, one which made her falter slightly in step. She blinked up at him and found herself uncharacteristically without a response, it took her several moments. “I have meetings and I arrange communications for diplomatic connections. I have to issue orders and raise funds.”

“I was hoping to get some intel from you. Something I could surprise Leia with the next time I saw her. It didn’t seem ... like a bad intention when I thought about it, but I see that I put you on the spot.”
There. A way out of the awkward conversation that she could easily take if she wanted. After all, it wasn’t his job to convince her that she out to take it easy once in a while.

Date: 2019-12-28 12:54 am (UTC)When had the time time she'd done something not related to her work? Even the ceremony after the destruction of the death star had been a chance to gain allies. She thought back and the last time she could recall feeling safe enough to let her guard down and relax without worrying about what she needed to do to ensure other's safety was before Alderaan was lost.
"I used to like riding, a feeling of freedom and control. Just head out and not really think about where I wanted to end up I could just go where ever I wanted for as long as I wanted. Maybe that was why Han was so attached to the Falcon, a similar sense of freedom. "I enjoyed sailing too. It's been years since I've done any of that without it being some sort of mission."

They keep changing where the power button isThis young lady was in the early phases of getting to know him still and he was jealous of how exiting it was in those days. She didn’t even seem all that fond of him, yet, from what he could tell.
“Those are both good ideas.” He says, in a thoughtful murmur. “I can’t recall the last time I’d asked her to do either.”

"I honestly hadn't thought about those things in years. I used to go to concerts with my father, there would be huge symphonies, or we would watch dancers. I was never quite good enough to do it but my aunts had put me in classes when I was young so I admired those who could." Fond memories, the sort which were transportive, reminding her of a time where life seemed so much simpler, thought she knew now Bail and Breha had both been working hard in their own ways on the peace movement.

He gets the sense that she probably doesn’t have the opportunity to do so very often. Particularly if they were at war wherever she was from.
“I haven’t known you to not be good at very many things.” He says with another fond shrug and a smile. “Or, her, I suppose.”
The music is starting to cue the fact that the song was ending and he wondered his she felt about that. Han was game for another song, but there was a level of strangeness to this that he wouldn’t blame her for struggling with as well.

Date: 2019-12-28 06:02 pm (UTC)She'd devoted so much of her time, especially the last ten years, to learning and preparing that she might have forgotten just why the fight was important on a personal level. It was one thing to fight and appreciate the outcome, and quite another to allow yourself to become a figurehead.
"Necessity I suppose." The song was winding down and the pace seemed to be set for another of the same variety. Leia was happy to continue just one more song. The company was pleasant and it felt good to step outside her position for even a few minutes. "I'd thought tonight would be something else entirely." Instead it became a pleasant reminder of things she missed and things that perhaps she didn't have to anymore.

Date: 2019-12-28 07:08 pm (UTC)Odd that when asked of all the possibilities for the evening her first thought was that. "I didn't know there'd be dancing, not all cultures seem to enjoy it as more than a spectator sport." She'd seen many events where it was a very lovely if dry affair where others just watched couples or groups dance.
"And Captain Kirk seems ice, from what Han had told me I thought he'd be, different." Hard headed, stubborn, never knew when to quit. Frankly she'd thought he might have been talking about himself.

Date: 2019-12-29 01:54 pm (UTC)“I find this place is nice for briefly getting away and that there are people worth meeting.” After a moment, he’ll add ... “Though as you might have noticed it gets a bit weird.”
The dancing is kept civil and respectful. Though there’s certainly a part of him that to do something a little bit wild like dip her or something. He doesn’t want to make this any weirder than it has to be, and now that he knows seeing her her is possible, he can’t help hoping he will again.
“I think we’re starting to see dancing less often where I’m from. I didn’t seem myself doing it much when I was young, either.”

Date: 2019-12-29 04:34 pm (UTC)People worth meeting, that sounded right. It was a shame should couldn't convince some of them to join the rebellion. Kirk seemed like a fine captain and there were others, not jedi but magic users. What allies she could make here if things functioned that way. Still even the change of her mindset after being here could be helpful, to see things she might have once overlooked with new eyes.
"I suppose we'll just have to indulge while we can, then."
