A Very Nexus Reception

To all the friends of the happy grooms, PINpoint messages have already been sent weeks ago inviting them to expect quite the street party arranged in the commons of the Nexus. Guests have been invited to bring an appetite--both for food and for a social adventure. Nirnish weddings are public affairs, after all. While the ceremony has had to be somewhat sequestered for the sake of keeping the existence of Other Worlds a secret, neither Felix nor Jim would want to leave out their interdimensional friends entirely. Having a reception party arranged in the Nexus became the natural plan of action.
Overnight large sections of the Commons are transformed via diligent craftsmanship and quite a lot of magic from those who’ve volunteered. Lanterns representing the Divines are hung along every lamp post, bringing at least the idea of warmth even if the flames are too small to heat their surroundings alone. Bardic tunes carry in the air as readily as the scent of food and drink. Past banners of red and black, blue and white the people gather.
For both grooms this is nearly a continuation of the day before. They’ve had the chance to sleep off the nerves of their ceremony. Today is entirely for celebration--uninhibited celebration at that. No more minding what is said and isn’t. No more pretending to be anything other than who they are. Jim’s traded out his Nirnish finery for a suit and tie, garments he’s much more familiar with. Felix is staying with his native clothing; though he may have dressed down a little from his wedding clothes, the conjurer’s dressed in fitted breeches and his best fur-trimmed coat and boots, the soft hide dyed blue to match his tunic. By their side sits the conjurer’s spectral wolf familiar, ears pricked at the gathering.
As the guests find their ways over it will be easy to spot their friends amidst all the decor along with many other avenues with which to enjoy themselves….

Date: 2019-12-28 02:58 pm (UTC)He catches that wistful look on Jim's face, but Loki's presence distracts him from any premonitions there. The conjurer bows respectfully to the god, genuinely touched that he'd pay them a visit. But he gives another small bow to the children, accepting the boxes the little girl is insistent on handing over.
"We're honored to have you join us," he says politely. "And by such kindness! I am Felix-" they're only children, how much formality is reasonable? "and this is Jim."

Date: 2019-12-29 04:40 am (UTC)"Well, y'should make sure to bring them back some sweets. Or...whatever it is they like from the party. No one likes to be laid up in bed none." It wouldn't do not to be cheerful and pleasant around the children who are here though. Jim's quick to salvage his smile and unlike Felix he doesn't bow to anyone unless the mage prompts him to. "Thank you all for coming, even. And to bring a gift too? We really appreciate it."
Jim takes a moment to quietly ask for the childrens' names from them (the older two, at least) and to his credit doesn't get either of them wrong even if his accent and inebriation makes them sound a bit strange to the ear.
"Are you hungry at all?" He glances up to make sure Loki is included in that offer. And little Eindrid too, of course, though his diet is more up to Loki than Una or Sigrid's. "We have a pretty big variety and I think some of the food from Felix's world might not be too far off things you might be used to." He's turning to Felix for confirmation of this which is kind of pointless considering he's already made the claim. Bruma is heavily influenced by Nord culture, after all. Maybe there's some similarity in the cooking? Only time will tell!
And well. As much as Jim wants to catch up with the god it's just not in his heart to make those kids stand there and listen to the boring adults talk when there's so much food so close to being theirs. If Loki approves, at least. Jim had to at least offer.

Yeah, he went there. In the boxes are a matching set of brooches, the exact design of the one he enchanted for Jim before, which caused more trouble than he anticipated. And there's no magic on these.
The two girls seem to warm up to Jim instantly, perfectly willing to accept his guidance and go get food. Sigrid does glance back at Loki, who nods and crouches to set Eindrid down. "Stay within earshot, I don't want you lot wandering off down the streets without me. But yes, do eat. Una, why don't you make a plate for Agnarr?"
Because Sigrid will be looking after her brother, so it will make for a fair division of labor.

Date: 2019-12-30 09:53 pm (UTC)"Ah- not too different, I'd imagine, but Mr. Suou's made all kinds of special recipes from my homeland. Do you like berries? The snowberry pastries are delicious."
He's had enough to drink that he's not over-vigilant about the lingering look he draws from Loki- but he does cough at that gentle poke about the brooch. Jim must have relayed the tale, or at least the gist of it. It makes more sense yet after he's given one box to his husband, unwrapping his with deft fingers to peek inside.
"It's beautiful," he says sincerely, turning it so the fine metalwork catches the light. "Thank you truly- for the gift, and your care." His smile is a touch rueful, though sincere. "Though I'm sure there'd be no issue, anyway. We cleared all of that up rather handily." Right, Jim? "I think it all turned out for the better, with Father learning the truth."

Date: 2019-12-31 04:24 pm (UTC)That's right! The kids said they brought gifts. Non..magical..gifts? From a god..?? He might not be following but the loud barking 'HA!' that escapes him the moment he sees the brooch is more than telling enough that he's caught on to what is being referenced here.
"No shit? This is..." He's still fighting not to keep laughing, so there's nothing but joy in those shining blue eyes when he looks up from the box. "Thank you. Felix's right though, I was only considered a potential spy for maybe half an hour. It turned out pretty good, all things considered."
The captain's fingers trace over the edges of the brooch fondly. This wasn't something Jim thought he'd lay eyes on again. It really is beautiful. And his, now.

He watches to make sure he sees where the children go, and there’s a possibility he’ll be sending an illusion out to keep an eye on them later, but for the moment everyone seems to be comfortable in the party crowd.
He’s pleased by the reaction to his gifts, watching the light dawn on first Felix and then Jim with a slow, impish smile. “Oh, don’t worry, I don’t feel guilty about it. It was an unintended consequence, mind you, but—well, all’s well that ends well.”
He can’t help but find the story funny, in retrospect. “If you wanted, I could certainly enchant them against fire or water to increase their durability, but I imagined you could get those kinds of protections in Felix’s world, as well, so I left them as is. Congratulations on your nuptials.”

Date: 2020-01-05 07:33 pm (UTC)"Your charges seem to be thriving-" the one child notwithstanding. "I hope the same can be said for you... and your researches?"
Careful, careful. Jim is well aware of what lies beneath this particular euphemism (for once) but there's no need to go making it obvious to anyone else.

Date: 2020-01-06 07:08 pm (UTC)What could possibly go wrong with carrying a replica of godly magic? Especially for a conjurer who makes a point to not step too far into any one deity's domain lest they start to think he's interested in selling off his soul?
In fact, it's not until Felix pointedly starts picking and choosing this words that Jim's farm-boy smile dwindles into a thoughtful frown. Not a very intelligent one given his altered state of consciousness but An Attempt is definitely being made.
"Oh. Ohhhhh. Right how's the--" Stepping out of the way of getting elbowed by Felix here. Even inebriated Jim Kirk knows how to keep a secret. "Everything going alright?" If he's not being subtle at least he's also not dropping details.

Date: 2020-01-09 11:13 pm (UTC)His eyes snap back to Felix when asked about his researches, sharp and searching, then dissolving into weary uncertainty. He knows what he's talked to Felix about, remembers the conversation with Jim, and that vague question could be referring to either of those things. Loki has just had his fingers in everything of late. "Right, which project are you referring to? The one where I'm trying to prevent the end of the world, or one of the other ones that involve dire threats to the people I hold dear?"
It's a dry statement, almost humorous, but the look on his face isn't exactly droll. "Either way, it's not exactly small talk; are you sure you want an honest answer?"

Date: 2020-01-18 03:15 pm (UTC)There's that look, though, and the way Loki asks if he really wants an answer. Felix has been on the receiving end of that kind of question a lot, and he's learned: when your brother or a guard captain or a god asks 'Are you sure?' like that, you damn well reconsider. So the consideration is there, a thoughtful look in his eyes while he smiles and demurs.
"Perhaps not the best conversation for this moment then," he says lightly. "And saving the world sounds rather out of my league, in any case. But last time we spoke you had, ah, questions for me about the crows. Which I wasn't able to help you with at the time. But if it's still a matter you're concerned with, I might be able to point you in a helpful direction, for later."
The Tag in which Jim is Not Helping
Date: 2020-01-18 05:15 pm (UTC)He's never been as good about looking before he leaps as Felix has though. With how far past sober he is stopping to reconsider if his thought is a good idea is so far out of the realm of consideration that it may as well not have even existed. Plus, now Felix is talking about it, so it can't be that bad. So long as he's Quiet about it at any rate.
"Th'thing with Nocturnal." Look at how pleased he is to be in the Know about what's going on. The other things he's talked to Loki about are very important but a bit too far outside of Jim's inebriated conversation capacity at the moment. Besides, as Loki says, it's hardly the sort of talk for parties. He needs coffee and charts to worry about world ending kinds of affairs. And to sleep this off.
"We weren't sure if that was still something you were lookin' into or not."

Date: 2020-01-20 04:07 am (UTC)His lips press into a thin line, discomfort tangible. Crows. He'd almost forgotten. Almost, but not quite. He's had puzzle pieces in his brain all year, linked together but forming no particular picture even when connected. "I don't know," he says. "What changed?"
That's a question for Felix, but his gaze is quick to swivel to Jim next, and if either of them was hoping he'd gloss over that namedrop, be confused or miss that Nocturnal clearly refers to a person and not a time of day, they can banish that hope at once.
His eyebrows go up. "Well. I suppose I'd better be looking into it now, hadn't I, if you're ready to drop the information at last. I wasn't aware that marriage loosened tongues so."

Date: 2020-01-25 03:05 pm (UTC)He wants to elbow his husband, or demand What in Oblivion did you do that for? Were it not that Loki's standing there watching, expecting an answer with eyebrows pointedly raised... Felix pulls a sheepish smile, clears his throat. And elbows his husband just a little bit when Loki's eyes are directed at his face. No more of the Cyrodillic brandy for you, Jim.
"Not that, so much. More a matter of having time to consider. And now that our wedding is safely done and blessed by the better part of a dozen gods, let's say it feels a bit less like pushing my luck to share some of what I know." He shrugs. "Though I would have spoken with you sooner, most likely, if the preparations hadn't taken most of my... ah, focus."
Stunned for a round, use your free turn wisely Felix
Date: 2020-02-01 02:25 pm (UTC)He can't get or hold a drink like this! Why did Felix hand this to him? Can he set them down????? Where--?
The conversation moves steadily on while Jim flounders.....

Date: 2020-02-03 03:00 pm (UTC)"You say that you reconsider now because you have less to lose, protected by the blessings of so many gods. To that I say no, I think that you have found that you have something to gain, else there would be no point in interrupting the status quo as you found it."
He clasps his hands behind his back, and rocks on his toes for a second, thinking, looking more like a professor considering whether to allow a student an extension on turning in his assignment, than a god. "Still, why should I quarrel with your gain, if it comes with a gain to me, as well?"
"What would you have me know of this deity, then? I assume speaking their name again will only draw excessive attention from them." If, indeed, they have not already drawn this god's eyes.
