A Very Nexus Reception

To all the friends of the happy grooms, PINpoint messages have already been sent weeks ago inviting them to expect quite the street party arranged in the commons of the Nexus. Guests have been invited to bring an appetite--both for food and for a social adventure. Nirnish weddings are public affairs, after all. While the ceremony has had to be somewhat sequestered for the sake of keeping the existence of Other Worlds a secret, neither Felix nor Jim would want to leave out their interdimensional friends entirely. Having a reception party arranged in the Nexus became the natural plan of action.
Overnight large sections of the Commons are transformed via diligent craftsmanship and quite a lot of magic from those who’ve volunteered. Lanterns representing the Divines are hung along every lamp post, bringing at least the idea of warmth even if the flames are too small to heat their surroundings alone. Bardic tunes carry in the air as readily as the scent of food and drink. Past banners of red and black, blue and white the people gather.
For both grooms this is nearly a continuation of the day before. They’ve had the chance to sleep off the nerves of their ceremony. Today is entirely for celebration--uninhibited celebration at that. No more minding what is said and isn’t. No more pretending to be anything other than who they are. Jim’s traded out his Nirnish finery for a suit and tie, garments he’s much more familiar with. Felix is staying with his native clothing; though he may have dressed down a little from his wedding clothes, the conjurer’s dressed in fitted breeches and his best fur-trimmed coat and boots, the soft hide dyed blue to match his tunic. By their side sits the conjurer’s spectral wolf familiar, ears pricked at the gathering.
As the guests find their ways over it will be easy to spot their friends amidst all the decor along with many other avenues with which to enjoy themselves….

Date: 2019-12-29 04:53 pm (UTC)That's no excuse not to show up, though, so he does, and what he brings is a tin of chocolate chip cookies with ivy and couple camellias on top, for good luck. He's wearing a few less layers in concession to a semi-formal occasion, with a black sweater bearing a white star design down the chest. When he greets them, he leads by shoving the tin in their general direction.

Date: 2019-12-30 05:06 pm (UTC)Fortunately he hasn't had so much to drink that that thought doesn't come tumbling out of his mouth. And hopefully the approving nod Felix gives will set Danny a little bit more at ease.
"For us? How kind! I'm so glad to see you here. You have met Jim, haven't you?" He sweeps a hand at his somewhat tipsier husband. Felix isn't sure quite what he and Thor have been getting into but at least Jim's having a good time and doesn't look at all ill.

Date: 2019-12-31 01:12 am (UTC)drunken bickeringdiscussion he'd been having with one of his officers when he registers his name being called. From the looks of it Doctor McCoy isn't too torn up about their conversation being interrupted either. He needs another drink if he's going to be dealing with this social nonsense all night.Besides, Jim is over with only a bit of sway to his step to raise his glass in greeting to the young mage.
"Oh! Danny's come! It's been a while, kid. You doin' alright?" He'll take the gift once Felix murmurs what it is with a small chuckle. "Even your student's spoiling us tonight...."

Date: 2019-12-31 12:57 pm (UTC)The nod and friendly greeting reassure him some, and he smiles. "Wasn't sure what's a good wedding gift where either of you come from, so I went with cookies. Ivy's for weddings, and camellias are supposed to be good luck."
He nods at the question of whether he's met Jim, "Major Tom, remember?"
And immediately he looks amused (and as a consequence, more at ease) when the captain comes over, clearly tipsy. "Having a good time, I take it?" He grins, then blushes at being referred to as Felix's student. "Congrats to you both, anyway."

Date: 2019-12-31 07:23 pm (UTC)He gives Jim an affectionate nudge. "I think Jim's been having more of it, but then I can't get too far into my cups just yet. I do have a demonstration to give yet." Something that might be of particular interest to Danny. Especially since - he admits to himself with a touch of regret - he hasn't been doing very well with the teaching end of things lately.

Date: 2019-12-31 08:02 pm (UTC)"You can be sure these are going to get demolished. Thanks for thinking of us." Jim's smile only grows, unrestrained the way only those who are completely uninhibited can give. Jim's good time isn't entirely natural, but hey, no one's getting hurt. "Are you kidding? I'm having a blast. We finally get out of months of preparation, and family hunting, and ceremonies...paperwork. It's official, might as well enjoy it!"
Let the captain just nudge Felix a bit closer to Danny here.
"He came all the way out, Felix. Let him help or something. Maybe even give him even a little bit of an explanation before the show?" Don't worry kid. Jim's gonna make sure you get a front row seat to Felix's demonstrations.

Date: 2020-01-02 02:27 am (UTC)Danny has been doing some teaching of himself, in the meantime. He's not been bereft of magical influences. He's spent time in Hermione's world, exchanged emails with Horvath, and made friends with Penninah. He's in a weird position, maybe, out of step with the rest of the people here thanks to being young, and alone, and unsupervised. It's still a vast improvement over where he came from.
Talk of a demonstration makes him perk up, looking from Felix to Jim hopefully. "Hey, if there's anything I can do to help, count me in."
Wow, and here he thought a wedding reception might be boring!

Date: 2020-01-03 12:08 am (UTC)"Well, I can hardly turn down some help." He eyes his husband sidelong for a moment, amused, before he turns to Danny. "I'm planning to show off some of the conjuration spells I've been working on. Modifications and extensions of the standard summonings, mostly, but ones I've never heard of anyone performing. I have you to thank for some of the ideas, actually. But I'll admit, I doubt I have your artistic flair when it comes to presenting them..."

Date: 2020-01-03 03:44 pm (UTC)Look, Jim doesn't actually have a very good understanding of what kind of magic Felix specializes in, and even less of an idea what Danny does and is choosing to believe the absolute best of both of them. Clearly this cannot go wrong now or ever.
Probably not now. It Is a party after all.
"There y'go. Felix hasn't told me what he's planning no matter how much I asked. Said it was s'possed to be a surprise. You can be sure I'm gonna be there to see it."

Date: 2020-01-05 01:02 am (UTC)"That is ballsy, mate. I am so in." His genuine enthusiasm for this project might actually be a red flag. "Wait, how do you mean you have me to thank for some of the ideas?"
This is getting better and better. The social awkwardness he walked in with has flown out the window.

Date: 2020-01-05 07:42 pm (UTC)He's 99% sure. He's spent hours practicing not to fall flat on his face
or let a wild scamp loose in a crowd of revelers. Danny's enthusiasm is only going to buoy him up here."Well, speaking with you reminded me that there's value in bringing a bit of showmanship to my craft," he explains with a wink. "It's been years since I tried putting my magic to use at a party." His specialty, at least. He glances at Jim. "Though I suppose we'd better confer without you, Jim, if I'm to save any surprises to impress you with..."

Date: 2020-01-06 08:12 pm (UTC)He can't even muster a frown when Felix all but tells him to leave off for a bit. When he tries it ends up as more of a petulant pout that shatters into a good natured chuckle mere seconds after it's been affected.
"Fine, fine! I see how it is." For once he doesn't seem to Actually be put out at being shooed away from Mages doing Mage Things. He can't honestly be bothered by much right now. "But you'd better send th'familiar after me First when th'show's about to start." His gaze snaps one more time between the two mages as if to press on them how serious he is before his drunken smile slowly finds its way back on his face and he nods to them both.
"Good t'see you Danny." He'll wander off and let the mages

Date: 2020-01-09 11:27 pm (UTC)The fact that it's dicey is exactly what Danny likes about it, though. If Jim remembers any of this conversation later, he may wish to draw the lesson from it that Danny is not going to be the one to urge Felix toward restraint.
The compliment makes him beam--hook, line, and sinker, here--and he straightens up his sweater as if he's gearing up for a performance. He leans over and pats Jim's shoulder, bright eyed. "He already admitted he's trying to impress you. Can't do that if you're not in the front row to be impressed."
As Jim departs, Danny looks a little like a puppy that's seen its owner get out the leash for a walk, only to be interrupted by a phone call. He likes the Captain; he does! But he knows Felix better and he's understandably excited to get to confer.

Date: 2020-01-25 02:05 pm (UTC)He glances around to make sure nobody's looking for him immediately, then places a hand on Danny's arm to guide him over to a quieter corner. "Without giving everything away, I wanted to show off a few new familiar spells, then the basic elementals- you know, fire, frost, lightning-" these probably aren't the standard where Danny's from, but Felix isn't thinking about that, "before I swallow as much magicka potion as I can and try for something really special."
