A Very Nexus Reception
Dec. 7th, 2019 04:26 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
To all the friends of the happy grooms, PINpoint messages have already been sent weeks ago inviting them to expect quite the street party arranged in the commons of the Nexus. Guests have been invited to bring an appetite--both for food and for a social adventure. Nirnish weddings are public affairs, after all. While the ceremony has had to be somewhat sequestered for the sake of keeping the existence of Other Worlds a secret, neither Felix nor Jim would want to leave out their interdimensional friends entirely. Having a reception party arranged in the Nexus became the natural plan of action.
Overnight large sections of the Commons are transformed via diligent craftsmanship and quite a lot of magic from those who’ve volunteered. Lanterns representing the Divines are hung along every lamp post, bringing at least the idea of warmth even if the flames are too small to heat their surroundings alone. Bardic tunes carry in the air as readily as the scent of food and drink. Past banners of red and black, blue and white the people gather.
For both grooms this is nearly a continuation of the day before. They’ve had the chance to sleep off the nerves of their ceremony. Today is entirely for celebration--uninhibited celebration at that. No more minding what is said and isn’t. No more pretending to be anything other than who they are. Jim’s traded out his Nirnish finery for a suit and tie, garments he’s much more familiar with. Felix is staying with his native clothing; though he may have dressed down a little from his wedding clothes, the conjurer’s dressed in fitted breeches and his best fur-trimmed coat and boots, the soft hide dyed blue to match his tunic. By their side sits the conjurer’s spectral wolf familiar, ears pricked at the gathering.
As the guests find their ways over it will be easy to spot their friends amidst all the decor along with many other avenues with which to enjoy themselves….

Date: 2019-12-11 11:50 pm (UTC)The rogue is wandering about the edge of the dance floor as the clash of songs continues, a smile on her lips as she sways in time with whatever beat happens to be most prominent. She'll let up on her game for a short time if someone happens to catch her in the act, but until then? She's going to sip at her drink innocently and dance on her own as if she has absolutely no hand in this.

Date: 2019-12-12 03:39 am (UTC)Speaking of said Cylon, he would be with her right now, preferably on the dance floor, but the bards keep switching things up too quickly, so he's headed over to the bar instead to get them both a drink until the musicians can make up their damn minds.
Adia is content to listen to the music (such as it is) until he returns, but spotting Amelia, she heads over to greet the woman warmly. It feels like ages since she's seen her, although at least the rogue has kept in touch via text -- not frequently, but enough to not make this reunion awkward.
Hopefully. A lot has happened since they last saw one another.
"Hi, Amelia." She stands close enough within reach of a hug, smiling softly. "Long time, no see."

Date: 2019-12-12 05:18 am (UTC)"A very long time," she agrees when they draw apart. If Adia doesn't mind, Amelia's going to keep a hold of one of her friend's hands for a bit; It's been a while since she's had the chance for interaction like this. "It's been a busy year. I feel like I haven't seen much of anyone from the Nexus other than Thor in months." A choice she made consciously after Steve's death, but she's been trying to be out a little more often as of late. Just... not out to answer questions on the Plaza or anywhere friends can find her without a little searching. She's seen a few others, too, but no one near as frequently as Thor.
Amelia gives Adia's hand a gentle squeeze before she asks, "It sounds like things have been going well on Atlantis? Well enough at least that they could spare you for a night of merriment for our friends?" A beat, and she looks around quickly. "I'm assuming Caspar is with you, at least. He must have wanted to offer his congratulations as well."

Date: 2019-12-12 06:46 pm (UTC)"It has been busy," she agrees. "It feels like my own wedding was ages ago, and now Felix and Jim have finally tied the knot." She smiles, although her thoughts are bittersweet. There has been loss, too, most notably Steve, which she knows hit Amelia especially hard. "How's Asvera doing? It must be beautiful there."
The question about Atlantis lightens her smile. "Yeah, it's great. Harvest season is over so there's not much left to do but prepare for the Solstice." When Amelia looks around, she's quick to point out Caspar over by the bar. "He'd probably tell you that he's only here as my plus one. He doesn't know Felix and Jim as well as I do. He promised me a dance but the music keeps changing." Which is awfully weird, now that she thinks about it. "Maybe it's for the best. Even our wedding dance was off in the woods."

Date: 2019-12-13 07:37 pm (UTC)The rogue coughs into her hand to keep from laughing when Adia brings up the ever changing music. Oops. "I've seen people paying off the bards to have their choice of songs played. If they don't calm down, I'm happy to offer them a few coins to play something for the two of you. It would be a good excuse to stretch my legs with a partner as well." Felix will come around for his dance eventually and she should definitely make sure she's warmed up for that. The mage had quite the mischievous look on his face and Amelia knows that means to be ready for anything.

Date: 2019-12-14 04:01 pm (UTC)"I'll show you pictures later, if you want to see. Caspar found an amazing tailor in the Nexus. Everything else was handled locally."
Adia knows Amelia well enough by now that her disguised laugh does not go unnoticed. "People paying off the bards?" she repeats in amusement. "Well, if you think you can get them to stick to an entire song -- preferably a slow one -- then I know Caspar will appreciate it."
"Appreciate what?" Caspar has made his way over by now, a cup of something warm and fragrant in each hand. He hands one to Adia, who takes it with her free hand, still holding onto Amelia's for as long as the rogue likes. "Hey, Amelia. Good to see you."
no subject
Date: 2019-12-15 12:43 am (UTC)"Appreciate a slow song so you can dance with your wife," she explains. "Adia tells me you've had some trouble with the bards I might be able to help with." Okay, she can't help but laugh a little as she says that. This little distraction of her has been a lot of fun.
"It's good to see you as well, Caspar. I know the two of you were married months ago now, but I want to offer an in person congratulations to you both." It feels better to do so in person. "Adia's been telling me about how well things have been going on Atlantis. Has everything been up to your standards as well?" The Cylon can be quite outspoken when given the chance to vent, and a party where they're surrounded by many people and loud music seems a good time for it.

Date: 2019-12-15 03:13 pm (UTC)It's something to ask Caspar, now that he's here, but first there's the matter of the bards. "Yeah, they can't seem to get their act together," he grouses, before raising an eyebrow at Amelia's laughter. Okay, yeah, he can kind of see how that's funny, like messing with a jukebox to play the same song a dozen times in a row, but he was looking forward to dancing with his wife, and he can't do that with the seemingly random tempo changes. "If you can do something about that, I'd appreciate it."
Adia smiles at the congratulations, giving her friend's hand a gentle squeeze. "Thank you, Amelia. I wish we could have had you there."
Caspar shrugs at the question, which is a sign of how content he is on Atlantis, not feeling out the need to bust out a litany of complaints. "We're still a year out from being able to harvest our coffee plants, but it's fine, otherwise. How's the library gig? You have to throw anyone out yet?" Because that's clearly the most potentially interesting aspect of her job.

Date: 2019-12-16 06:47 pm (UTC)"Let me make up for not being there by getting the bards in order when you're ready." She smiles warmly at the couple, completely earnest with the offer. Being with her friends on their wedding day would have been wonderful, but it's more important that Caspar and Adia got to have the day than it being perfect in every way possible. There's always time to celebrate with friends and loved ones who don't live on Atlantis, as the party going on around them now showcases.
"At least there's coffee here for you when you can get away," she laughs. Amelia definitely understands the importance of the daily caffeine intake ritual. When asked about the library, she shrugs and carefully takes her hand back from Adia. "It's fine, but I haven't spent much time there lately. I've been in Asvera more often than even my own apartment most days." She hesitates for a moment, steadying herself with a silent breath. "I needed a place to go where I could feel useful. Asvera has come a long way since the Asgardians settled there, but there's always work to be done." It's something Amelia appreciates, even now when she's feeling better months after Steve's death.
She exhales a small sigh, then manages a smile for her friends. "To be honest, I simply like spending time there. It's the one place I've been since coming to the Nexus that feels like where I came from. The technology is still far beyond what I grew up with, but the place itself..." Her smile becomes a touch dreamy as she thinks about standing on the cliffs above the sea. "I feel calm there in a way I haven't in a very long time."

Date: 2019-12-14 11:32 pm (UTC)"You're one of the grooms - I'm certain they'll listen to you if you ask them to play something specific. And if not?" She pauses for effect then casts her gaze over to the bards. One of them, a flamboyantly dressed man with a stringed instrument of some sort, is immediately attentive to the look. He removes his hat and waves it at her, then returns it to his head and starts trying to rally all the other bards to follow him. It's not clear if he's decided what to play yet, but at least they're trying to organize.
Amelia's smirk is positively coy as she winks at her friend. "I have a few charms that might work if you need a little help selecting something."

Date: 2019-12-17 12:06 am (UTC)"How about something more... traditional, then? To not overwhelm you too quickly?" She winks at her friend and then motions to the bards, who all miraculously settle on a single piece of music at her gesture. The dance is simple and uncomplicated, excepting some of the footwork that isn't actually necessary for the dance, and the rogue steps through it with grace and ease, her skirts lifted with one hand to make moving about a little easier. It's been a long time since they've done this together, but Amelia seems to relax much the same way she did before when her mind drifts away from her worries and to the dance instead.
"Not too much too soon, I hope?" It's an entirely teasing question as she briefly spins away from him and then returns a few seconds later. "I can only slow down so much for you, even at your party."
no subject
Date: 2019-12-20 09:47 pm (UTC)He has to laugh in admiration at how swiftly she's suborned their bards. The dance is similar enough to those of home for him to get the steps after a round or two. And Felix is glad now that he dressed for Cyrodiil- his coat and tunic seem more appropriate for this sort of dance. His steps are nimble as ever: he's clearly been practicing his footwork.
"I'd hate to think I was slowing you down, Amelia. How are you finding the party? Enough mischief for your taste yet?" Likely not; thus far proceedings have been rather tame by his standards. Even if the point is sort of to mark his (and Jim's!) settling down to be proper citizens. That doesn't mean they need be dull.
no subject
Date: 2019-12-22 12:50 am (UTC)"A lady has to play nice with the host at least a little," she jokes. A wink, and she takes his hand for the next section of the dance. "The bards are playing well, at least, but I haven't seen to any of the games or drinks yet. I suspect they're far more interesting than the chaos being sown here." Chaos she's very proud of, but games of chance and open bars have a tendency to eclipse anything coin can manage on its own.
"Have the proceedings been everything you've been hoping for? Tonight's and yesterdays, I mean." Weddings are serious matters in every culture she's interacted with, so she hopes it's all gone well so far. Teasing of Felix's husband aside, she really does want things to go smoothly for the both of them.
no subject
Date: 2019-12-25 10:41 pm (UTC)His smirk suggests it's a tease as much as an honest warning, seeking to get a rise from her.
"More than I hoped, so far. It's been so long since I've been in the Nexus properly. I'd forgotten how much fun there was to be had. And I'm looking forward to watching Jim's crew discover it all."
no subject
Date: 2019-12-26 06:36 pm (UTC)Really, he should know by now that Amelia isn't one to give up what's hers to something like chance.
The music finally gives out after a last few spins, devolving into the clashing of songs that have no place together. Amelia laughs and steps off the dance floor to let the few brave souls around attempt to dance to the clamor while she debates what to test Felix with next.
"You brought in everyone you could, then," she observes with a smile. "I hope the space faring folk enjoy it here as much as your own countrymen. They're always a delight when they're not causing trouble the way you do." A little more teasing? But of course. With all the two of them have been through together over the years - and the strange places they've ended up as a result of one another's actions - a habit like this will never die. Wedding celebration be damned; Little brothers can always use a good metaphorical prodding.

Date: 2019-12-15 06:05 pm (UTC)And oh, there's a familiar face. "Amelia," he calls out with a smile, waving his prosthetic hand at her. "You dance like you fight." That's a compliment, of course.
no subject
Date: 2019-12-15 06:27 pm (UTC)"Thank you, that's very gracious." She takes a seat next to him and removes her cloak with a relieved exhale. It's definitely time to cool off a bit. "Do I get this compliment from another warrior with dancing prowess? Or from someone who simply appreciates a fine dancer?" Despite her teasing tone, it's a completely earnest question. She's heard many tales of Thor's skills on the field of battle, and a compliment like this one makes her wonder how rounded his skill set is.

Date: 2019-12-20 01:34 am (UTC)When was the last time he had reason to dance? Certainly not during his time with the Avengers, though he'd attended parties in Stark Tower. Those were more about drinking and socializing than dancing, which he was also good at, of course. Maybe twenty years back, at the victory celebration after the battle of Harokin? "It's been a while," he says at last, rubbing at his bearded chin.
no subject
Date: 2019-12-22 12:40 am (UTC)"It's not a skill one loses without concerted effort," she tells him with a wink. "Once the rhythm is in the bones, it's impossible to be rid of. It might take a few stretches and a few tries to find it again, but I believe you could show up some of the poor fools I've been stepping over easily."
Grinning, she motions to a group of young men speaking to each other in hushed tones by the group of bards. Several of them have removed their shoes to rub at their feet and a few are gesturing wildly as they talk to one another about their attempts to dance with the rogue. To call them hapless wouldn't be wrong, given their various states of frustration. Amelia seems rather proud of herself as she leans back on her hands and exhales a content sigh.
"Really, you'd think Felix's countrymen would be better equipped to handle someone with spirit like mine." She laughs at her own joke and smiles up at Thor. "I feel like I can't be blamed for their current state nearly as much as they might like to think."
no subject
Date: 2019-12-22 04:17 pm (UTC)He follows her gaze, though, and grins at the sight of men who look a bit danced out. “Of course not. They don’t look like they’d last in a ‘dance-off’.” He pronounces that like it’s a concept he’s still not entirely familiar with.
no subject
Date: 2019-12-23 01:39 am (UTC)Thor says it better than she would, considering it's a brand new concept to her. "Dance off? Are they about to dance out of their clothes? Or at least out of their shoes?" That's certainly not the kind of question someone who's familiar with sex would ask, but that doesn't describe Amelia so here they are.
no subject
Date: 2019-12-27 01:09 am (UTC)Of course.
Surprised, Thor barks out a startled laugh. "No, no. The rabbit told me about it. It's a contest of skill, of sorts. Whoever dances the poorest gets removed until one champion remains. Though there's a card game called 'strip poker' where the goal is to win your opponents' clothes."
no subject
Date: 2019-12-27 02:46 am (UTC)Her head tilts slightly to one side as she listens to him explain the two concepts, her cheeks darkening at that last bit of information. Ah, that explains a few conversations she's overheard in various parts of the Nexus now...
"A contest like that would be very subjective, would it not?" She's going to ask about the dancing to avoid talking about people taking their clothes off together. Amelia doesn't have the right life experiences to keep talking about something like that. "If it was simply a matter of who could dance the longest that would be an entirely different matter, but unless the judge of this contest chose a certain style of dancing, I can't see this being fair." Not that a contest has to be fair, but this seems like something that should have fair rules?
